More volume from an RD1 - a 1x12 cab?
« on: June 03, 2015, 03:38:19 AM »

Advice needed please.

I've a great little RD1 which was initially just for home use, but I was asked last week to play in a band, just some rhythm. I took the baby Randall to practice, and even though the others were using 10w and 15w solid state amps, I just didn't have enough volume - fair enough, that's not what the amp was designed or bought for, but rather than getting another amp for the practice room I was wondering if plugging it into a cab would do the job? (There is no mixing desk, so I can't use the xlr output).

Thus, I know I'm lacking basic wattage and volume, but I don't need that much more sound, another 35% would be fine, so if I plugged her into a 1x10 or 1x12 8 ohm cab, maybe also putting a tube overdrive into the effects loop to boast the power section, would that get me the extra 35% or so of volume?

Please advise. Thank you.
