RD412-V30 vs RG412
« on: July 03, 2015, 01:00:33 PM »
Hey guys, I'm going to be purchasing a randall cabinet and I was looking at the RD412-V30 cabinet. It's quite expensive (on guitar center website), then I noticed the RG412, which is around 500 dollars cheaper than the RD412-V30. Could anybody tell me the difference between the two? I'm looking for a sound similar to Metallica or Amon Amarth. I will be purchasing the RD20H head as well. But before I buy the RD412-V30 for almost 900, I decided to ask here first.

The biggest difference topically is the speakers. You get Celestion Vintage 30's in the RD412-V30, and a more economical Randall Speaker in the RG412.

I have never played through the RG412, so I can't comment on quality. However, I have played through V30's and many other comparable speakers. There is a reason that the V30 is in so many cabs. It's a great speaker used on countless recordings, and used in countless guitar rigs across the world.

The danger is in saving the money and going with the RG412 (my opinion). If you get the RG412 and realize you don't like the sound your getting(from the economical speakers), your still in need of a new cab OR replacing the speakers in the RG.

Up to you, I'd try and go to guitar center or similar to a/b test.

I have V30's in my RC412. I love them personally.
